March

    By Kelly Maue

We are making our way through March. The fourth of the month is the only day of the year to give us clear direction: “March forth!” We’ve sprung forward with Daylight Savings Time, watched the movie industry’s biggest night of the year with The Oscars, and partied on St. Patrick’s Day with parades and shenanigans. March Madness is underway to find the men’s college basketball Division I champion.

But there is much more to March, including observances you may not know about. Let’s look at some that caught our attention – from thoughtful and serious to strange and silly designations for each day of the month.

These are only some of the day-long celebrations and observances in March. It’s clear there needs to be coordination when designating days; otherwise, why would Dentists Day coincide with Oreo Cookie Day?

There are ways to mark the month and certain weeks as well. We dedicate the entire month of March to Women’s History. It’s also known as Optimism Month, Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, Craft Month, Umbrella Month, Adopt A Guinea Pig Month, and National Celery Month.

When you break March down into weeks, you can celebrate Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, Bubble Week, Crochet Week, and National Introverts Week. There’s also National Procrastination Week (but you can get around to celebrating that whenever you feel like it).

I already did. Mine happened to coincide with Chocolate Chip Cookie Week.
