U.S.-Mexico Border Wall Photographer, Griselda San Martin

Griselda San Martin is a Spanish documentary photographer and visual journalist who focuses on the genuine reality along the U.S.-Mexico border. Through her lens, she studies the issues of immigration, deportation, inequality and violations of human rights. The mainstream media depicts life along the border in a predominantly negative manner, but San Martin’s portrayal differs from that. Through her work, San Martin delves into the transnational experiences and customs that connect individuals, families, and social circles across political borders. Her art challenges common perceptions about immigrants and presents a different viewpoint, showcasing a marginalized community exhibiting resilience and ingenuity amid difficult circumstances. Griselda San Martin currently has an exhibition titled, Alternate Perspectives, at the Kooyumjian Gallery on Webster University’s campus open now through April 24, 2024.
