SOLID: Science of Learning Instrument Design

The Sheldon’s SOLID program is the science of learning instrument design. Students design and play their custom built instruments from recycled materials. Top student instruments are selected annually to be showcased within an exhibit at the Sheldon. What began in 2014 with the support of Boeing, and partnership with the St. Louis Science Center, The Sheldon’s SOLID program continues to grow. Almost 9,000 students went through the program and currently 65 schools are participants. One school however is taking SOLID beyond the classroom. The Julie Goldstein Early Childhood Education Center’s new playground now hosts a Music Wall project created by innovative teacher Fannie Belle Lebby and her fellow teachers and students.
