The poems in Kenzie Allen’s first collection excavate meaning and emotion through the lens of the body, Indigenous culture and history, and the land. “Cloud Missives” is a full circle of expression, with connection with others and love as thematic through lines. Allen spent part of her formative years in St. Louis, and her study of archeology at Washington University informs many of her poems. In this interview, Allen discusses her writing, art, and multimodal poetry, giving a glimpse into the inspiration of a writer poised to become a new, major voice in American poetry.
