    In this edition of Schankman’s St. Louis, we explore the pages of a new book featuring photos of old St. Louis firehouses, dating back to the days when it was an all-volunteer organization using horse drawn wagons to respond to fires.

    Researchers in Missouri Suggest the Flu and MMR Vaccines May Offer Protection From COVID-19
    Children who receive a flu shot are less likely to suffer symptoms from a COVID-19 infection, according to a new study from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Other types of vaccines may also give what the investigators of a different study call “trained immunity”. Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis are investigating the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella- the MMR vaccine- as possible protection against COVID-19.

    The History of St. Louis Cartoons and Newspaper Comics with Dan Martin
    Learn the stories and significance of 5 newspapermen/cartoonists with St. Louis ties: Joseph Pulitzer, Joseph Keppler, Al Hirschfeld, Daniel Fitzpatrick, and Bill Mauldin. Overall, we will show a unique story of St. Louis, as it became a hotbed for cartoonists in the late 19th century, it’s impact on political commentary and satire through the 20th century, and the city’s lasting legacies as still seen today with the Post-Dispatch’s Weatherbird.
