The Gyo Obata Fellowship with the Regional Arts Commission gives undergraduate students an opportunity to work in local nonprofit arts organizations. The opportunity is full-time, 10 weeks of paid experience, immersive, and traditionally for the underrepresented in the arts. The program is named after Gyo Obata, architect who designed many famous structures, including museums, airports, and a presidential library. In St. Louis, he designed the Priory Chapel at Saint Louis Abbey, the main terminal of St. Louis Lambert International Airport, and the Planetarium at the St. Louis Science Center. We spoke with RAC’s Communications Senior Manager, Jay Scherder, as well as current Gyo Obata Fellow, Marissa Camp from Webster University. Marissa is currently interning with Central Print in Old North. Fellows also have the opportunity to intern with places such as Cinema St. Louis, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Consuming Kinetics Dance Company, COCA, National Blues Museum, and more.
