Dance the Vote 2018

    Dance the Vote is a fun event that is designed to promote voter awareness and encourage voter registration.   The event is from 2-6 p.m. on October 6, 2018, four days before the deadline to register in the 2018 midterm elections.

    The nonpartisan event at Missouri History Museum features dance companies, poets and storytellers.

    The performers at the 2018 event include Ashleyliane Dance Company, Karlovsky and Company Dance, Grand Center Arts. Academy, KYPE- Kuumba Youth Performance Ensemble, SkyStone Contemporary  Ballet, Imagine Dance Project, WUDance Collective, MADCO 2, Beyond Measure

    Dance Theater, Las Rumberas, Joan Lipkin, John Blair, MK Stallings, Kim Furlow, Ashley Tate, Pam Garvey, Roseann Weiss, Susan Spitfire-Lively, Sahara “Sista Sols” Scott, Ana Jennings, and Better Family Life.

    In the spirit of a family event, there will be a selfie station and a coloring table for children.

    The event is inside in the rotunda of the History Museum. At 1 p.m., on the steps of the museum outdoors, the public can take part in a community dance pre-event set to music by Michael Jackson.

    “In this season of stressful political dialogue, it is empowering to be reminded of how beautiful and necessary voting is, and how much of a community the very act of voting, and making work about voting, can create,” said theatre artist and activist Joan Lipkin. The event is organized by Lipkin, dancer Ashley Tate, Sabrina Tyuse and Anne Taussig.

    St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson has declared October 6th to be Voter Registration Day in St. Louis.
